WHERE: At ArtWorks Theatre, 6569 Santa Monica Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90069. 323.871.1912 - RSVP Line. We tend to sell out so RSVP early.

PRICE: FREE, though we suggest a donation of $5.00 to cover the cost of the treats, and we also accept and encourage barter*.

Explorations on the Bulgakov Theme of Unclean Forces (Nechistaya Sila), solo work Unseen [Nevesta] by Olya Petrakova with ARTEL, Russian songs, dances, stories +more artists will be announced + community barters!

What is " Gogol-Mogol TeaRoom Performance Salon”? Akin to Russian form of gathering "posidelki", it is a monthly community event with a Russian Tea Service, concoctions of traditional and not so traditional gogol-mogol, and a presentation of Songs, Dances, Drafts, Etudes, Compositions by our company members, invited artists and those participating in a barter*, making it possible for Artel to connect with friends and those interested in our work, as well as to feed our creative fire for the development of new material. Performed in English, Russian, and Universal, in a communal, informal setting. Each piece is on average 10 minutes long.

Some of the Past Gogol-Mogol Events were based on Winter Kolyada Celebration, Old New Year Holiday, and Maslenitsa "Russian Mardi-Gras" Carnival.

* barter is a form of repayment that can be done in the following forms: performing a song, a piece of music, a dance, a poem, or teaching our company & guests a traditional dance, song or poem in any language. We welcome and encourage our audiences participation!

What is Gogol-Mogol? An egg-based concoction known as Gogol-Mogol, comes in numerous forms with all manner of ingredients. Common to most recipes is egg yolks whipped stiff with sugar; other options include egg white, milk, vanilla, nutmeg, honey, citrus rind, rum or cognac, short crust, berries, fruits and other assorted toppings. Said to help smooth and soothe a singer’s sore throat, a Gogol-Mogol could be just what the doctor ordered on a cold winter’s day.

BUTOH PARADE, SATURDAY MARCH 17, 2007 - FREE:
The time to meet to get ready will be from 10:00 - 10:30am (so we have time to put white makeup on and put on costumes - as well as stretch and get into the butoh mode...) we will leave the theater all made up at around 11:45-12:00 noon and walk up to Hollywood Blvd

MEETING PLACE:
BodyWorks Studio (it has no name on the building though, yet)

inside the red/olive complex of the ART\Works Theatre.
Parking is on the street only, as the theater parking lot will be occupied that day by multiple rehearsals, etc. Of course, if people need to unload, they can pull into the parking lot for that.

COSTUMES:
We encourage everyone participating to bring their own costume..usually in the white palette range... but we will have costume available if you dont have time to make your own. We also bring makeup to use.... we would encourage folks to purchase white pantie hose (2-3 pairs) and white cheesecloth to drape over your face or body. this white material helps from putting so much makeup on the body...for easier cleanup.

ESSENTIALS:
Also, be prepared to walk, dance, and generally be performing for up to 2 hours.. we are pretty close to the event from the theater but it will still be a walk... so wear good walking shoes and we can wrap white fabric over them if you like.... also bring a bottle of water if you get thirsty.

ARTEL's Gogol-Mogol TeaRoom Celebrates "Maslenitsa", Russian Mardi-Gras

On February 18th, "Forgiveness" Sunday of the "Maslenitsa" Pancake Week, ARTEL' s third installment of Gogol- Mogol TeaRoom Performance Salon (February Edition) will turn into a Miniture Carnival for about 100 people, as the space at our ARTWORKS THEATRE is limited. The day will be charged with a relentless revelry and merriment of the like of our ancestors: pancake making, games, honey wine tastings, the making of the Gogol-Mogol, Awakenings of the Bear (signaling the oncoming of Spring), audacious performances by ARTEL and invited guests, dancing, and Madame Maslenitsa burning ritual.

Maslenitsa Celebration is a Russian version of the Mardi-Gras, or the Brazilian Carnival, or the Carnival in Venice, or many others, which, appropriated by Christianity, in effect stem from the same ancient root: human beings celebrating the spring equinox, acknowledging the mystery of nature. In 2002, Maslenitsa, after being banned for 85 years, became the Official Holiday of the City of Moscow, which gathers over 70,000 people from all over the country and abroad. *PLEASE, BRING FOOD and DRINKS. Everyone's been really great about this in the last 3 years. IT'S YOUR PARTY!! - We will open a separate room just for food. - You can also bring ice, plastic cups, plates, napkins, utensils, but, please, call Olya (310-985- 9996) or Milla (310-430-8128) on the day of the party to coordinate.
*Wear anything you want, BUT since it is in the theatre venue - wild theatrical outfits are very appropriate. Decadence is appreciated!
